This event is being organized by Mikva’s CPS Student Advisory Council (SAC) for youth, parents, educators, and community members. For this forum, SAC is prioritizing questions and topics that are at the top of mind for Chicago students! SAC is made up of Chicago Public School students from more than 20 different schools who are passionate about education and work to explore issues affecting students in CPS. Through a deep look into district policy, the council advocates for an authentic and equitable youth voice to influence policy decisions, the Chicago Board of Education and works directly with CPS Chief Executive Officer Pedro Martinez.
Are you unfamiliar with the elected school board? Take a moment to check out Chalkbeat and Block Club Chicago’s School Board Elections 2024 page or the Chicago Suntimes/ WBEZ Chicago School Board Voter Guide here. Chicago Votes Candidate Forum
Chicago Votes & the Chicago Public Schools Social Science Department are co-hosting a virtual candidate forum on Wednesday October 16th from 4:30 - 6pm.
This will be a non-partisan, educational event that will center student questions.
Chicago Votes and CPS staff will neither endorse nor disparage any candidates.
The virtual forum will be a space for candidates to answer questions from students. It will not be a space for adult questions.
The purpose of this forum is educational. Candidates should not seek to use student voice to publicize their campaigns. While you might want to reference participation in this forum in your campaign, it would be inappropriate for any candidate to reference any student participant or particular student concerns in their campaign.
Candidates may not solicit student volunteers at the forum.
We believe this forum will be a powerful educational opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of Chicago’s first-ever school board election.
